NAME: World Games PUBLISHER: Epyx TYPE: Action/Sport Simulation Cracked from an original by DataWiz/6502 Crew TECH NOTES: World Games uses standard DOS 3.3 Address and Data Header bytes (D5 AA 96 and D5 AA AD respectively), but uses Epilog bytes of FF FF for Data and Address instead of DE AA. This renders the disk uncopyable by normal conventions. To transfer the disk to a normal DOS 3.3 format, boot up the DOS 3.3 system master disk, and enter to following from the applesoft prompt: CALL -151 B942: 18 This patch will cause dos 3.3 to ignore any I/O errors when we copy (in this case, the non-standard epilog bytes). Now RUN COPYA and copy the 4 sides of the game. The secondary protection is a nibble check on track 0, sector E. NOPing out the code leaves you a cracked copy. Unfortunately, I lost my notes, so i can't direct you to the exact patch. The actual RWTS on the game never checks for the epilog bytes of FF FF, so there was no need to modify that part of the program to look for standard ones. As a side note, World Games runs under a slightly modified version of ProDOS, but all the disks use the same volume name. Although I haven't checked, I suspect this game can be copied onto a hard drive and played there. ----------------------- If you encounter any other apparent protection, please contact me at datawiz@magpage.com If you have original apple software that has not yet been converted to .DSK image format, please contact me.
